I have been teaching in Japan since 1987. It has been a long and winding road to the place I am today. I would not say it has been especially difficult, though it has been challenging enough at times. I had no aspirations of greatness, and as you know--I'm not great. But I have felt led to teach--or I might say, to "motivate to learn." My greatest joy has come to me through my children and my students (all of whom I consider more of "my" children). Of course my wonderful husband is a joy too-I love you, honey!
Today is my son's birthday! He's 14 years old--hard to believe. Today is also Pearl Harbor day. I like to think that my son was born on this day as a reminder to us of the peace that now exists between Japan and the USA. There's peace in our home, anyway--where the son of a Japanese father and US mother enjoyed his birthday surrounded by his family who loves him.
