Going to Nicaragua

Soon I'll be leaving to spend a little over a week in Nicaragua as a volunteer on a medical mission with the NPO "Corner of Love". Nicaragua is located in Central America between Honduras and Costa Rica.

I will be in Nicaragua from 2/24 until 3/5 and then spend one day in Battle Ground, WA (my hometown) and return to Japan to jump right back into work. In Nicaragua we will be based in the village of San Ramon and take buses out with teams of American doctors into smaller villages in the mountains each day to provide health care for the people there that have no access to hospitals. They estimate that the 4 medical and 2 dental teams on the trip will treat about 6,000 patients in one week's time. There will be work for everyone, including non-medical volunteers like me.

For all of you who fear spending Friday the 13th on your own, why don't you join the Kyushu University Toastmasters meeting at 6:30pm in the seminar room of the "Togo Kyouiku Center." We can brave the 13th together!

OK. I'm missing you now.

Strangely, I thought I'd be relieved when our last class finished. But I miss you guys. I can't wait to see you again in May for our next class!
